My LiveJournal Resolution for 2014

Happy New Year, everyone! I hope the holiday has treated you well (i.e., you're not too depressed or hungover) and 2014 is off to a good start. Personally, 2013 was kind of shitty so I'm really looking forward to this year.

I've cut back on resolutions to compensate for a total lack of willpower, but one of the things I've decided to do in 2014 is to post in my journal every. single. day. A couple of you who know me well are probably rolling your eyes about now...and you're right. I'm not exactly known for my consistency. But I've been meaning to post more often and this seems like a good way to get in the habit. Hopefully, I won't bore the shit out of you.

For my first post of 2014, a book review...

Stone_Rose The Stone Rose
by Jacqueline Rayner

three and a half stars

This is a fun, if somewhat silly, original tale based on the Doctor Who television series. The story kicks off when Mickey Ricky Mickey takes the Doctor and Rose to see a 2,000-year-old statue he's found that looks exactly like Rose. Determined to learn more about the mysterious statue, the Time Lord and his t-shirted companion travel back to ancient Rome...unaware that the adventure will put Rose at risk.

The story starts out very promisingly, pulling fans into the mystery right away. The characterization is very good. The author really has an ear for the characters' quirky back-and-forth exchanges - at times I could almost hear the actors' voices saying the words in my head. Unfortunately, the plot fails to live up to its early promise and winds up coming off a bit thin. If, however, you're in need of a quick Ten/Rose fix, this could be just the book for you.
